Weekly Update 9/24
Mostly updates to existing features this week, but some more in-depth news about what's coming soon.
Welcome back to the Football Sheets Weekly Update!
Busy week working on some projects that have yet to be completed (more below) now that the NFL database is mostly built out the way we want it.
Let’s get into it.
Housekeeping
If you were granted a free trial to Football Sheets last month, be aware that it ends today! A paid subscription at $5/month will be required to continue accessing the Knack database starting tomorrow.
I hope that the NFL databases have been helpful in your preparation each and every week and that it has convinced you to stick around on the Knack side of things. If not, no worries - the trial subscriptions will revert to free memberships tomorrow, so you’ll still get these weekly updates as we continue building out more features on the NCAA and NFL Draft sides of things.
Database Updates
Now that we have injury report data in the NFL database, the focus this week has been updating and maintaining our existing pages on that front while working on some new features that are not released yet.
As a reminder - you can currently view injury history, snap counts (raw and percentages) broken down by phase of the game, and contract information on a player’s Details page.
The Details page also has a player’s transaction history dating back to February of this year.
Our next step with the NFL database is to add upcoming free agent type for players currently under contract, which should be coming in October.
Coming Soon
Since our last update, Brent Pry (Virginia Tech), DeShaun Foster (UCLA), and Mike Gundy (Oklahoma State) have all gotten fired at their respective NCAA coaching posts. With those openings in mind and more to come, the NCAA Coaching Carousel page will launch in the next few weeks so help you track all of the coaching movement in college football.
Falcons wide receivers coach Ike Hilliard has also been let go, so the NFL version of the Coaching Carousel will launch similarly soon. Both the NFL and NCAA versions will have full coaching staff rosters so you can see who's currently on staff and who might be heading to a new destination next year.
The NCAA player database is coming along, with 41 remaining rosters to fill in to get our first version of the database up. Each roster takes about 30 minutes for me to process, so we’re looking at roughly 20.5 hours of work remaining, which should be finished in the next week or two.
That database will then link to the East-West Shrine Bowl and Panini Senior Bowl preseason watchlists so that you can see some data about those players as we prepare to enter all-star invite season.
Once invitations start to go out - typically late October or November - we will start to track all-star invites and acceptances in preparation for the NFL Draft circuit. Those pages will be supplemented by official measurements from the College Gridion Showcase, Hula Bowl, Shrine Bowl, and Senior Bowl as those events take place.
We’re getting close to the most exciting time of the year to be a Football Sheets subscriber, and I hope you join us for the experience. Thank you for supporting Football Sheets and see you next week!
